Discover the Archipelago
The Archipelago of the Saronic Gulf is very close to Athens (it is one of the favourite holiday destinations for Athenians) and offers long stretches of sandy beaches, beautiful bays, crystal clear water and fragrant pine forests.

The islands offer a pleasant contrast with the bustle and noise of the capital and each has its own character. The territory is home to important archaeological sites, such as the Doric Temple of Aphaia on the island of Aegina, and other signs of a glorious past, such as the mosaic floors of the island of Spetses and the atmosphere of the ancient Persian fleet at Salamis.

The climate
The climate is typical of inland Greece, hot and dry in summer and cold in winter, with clean air and island atmosphere on a human scale. These islands are often chosen as an alternative destination to the Cyclades and the Dodecanese for sailing holidays in Greece for the fact that here the effect of the Meltemi is more bland.

Close to Athens
The Saronic Gulf is the most famous gulf of all Greece since ancient times. As a matter of fact, historical cities such as Athens and Elefsina and even places of worship, Sounion and Epidavros have developed on its coats. The gulf is named after the King Sarona who drowned in the waters of the gulf.

The winds
The prevailing wind in the Saronic Gulf comes from the North-East, although the Meltemi – the strong, dry wind from the north Aegean Sea – is still present. The Meltemi reaches force 5-6 on the Beaufort scale, especially during July and August. It tends to calm down towards mid-August and cease in September.

In the Gulf of Argos, particularly in the area of Hydra and Spetses, the wind blows predominantly from the South-East, even though the Meltemi also affects this area, bringing afternoon breezes that are fantastic for sailing.

The climate
In July and August temperatures reach 28-33 degrees, but it is a hot dry climate which is really pleasant! In summary, the Saronic Gulf is a genuine compromise between the comfortable sailing and navigation conditions of the Ionian Sea and the challenges of the Cyclades.
