Alicudi

Away from commercial routes and unknown to mass tourism, Alicudi is never included as a stop during sailing holidays to the Aeolian Islands and thus still retains all its natural charm. Alicudi is sparsely populated (a little less than a hundred people accept to live here year-round). Those who come to Alicudi are immersed in a way of life now lost elsewhere. Here even large groupers and other fish are not wary and they will not retract. The surf of the sea and the sound of the wind blowing through the vegetation are the only sounds you will hear.

Descrizione

Alicudi Sicily sailing vacation

No cars no pollution
There are no roads on the island of Alicudi, so even the cars, scooters and bicycles are completely missing. Electricity arrived here only a few years ago. This small island is hardly ever included in sailing holidays to the Aeolian Islands.

The colors of the island

But the sailor that decides to include the destination, will not miss the reward of a thousand colours of the seasons, offered by agaves, prickly pears, emerald capers, bougainvillea in shades of red, pink, purple, salmon, white, silver-white wormwood, broom yellow, and even olive trees, geraniums, and wild herbs which here are the dominant form of vegetation.

A place full of silence
Many say Alicudi is just a “rock”. But it gives off a lot of energy; it is a place where you can always feel alone even when there are people, a fundamental requirement for an island. And Alicudi is a ‘living experience: perhaps less beautiful than the other Aeolian islands, it is certainly the island. It’s the right place to find oneself. We recommend you include Alicudi during your sailing holiday to the Aeolian Islands.

A suspended atmosphere

Here time stopped a long time ago. During the summer, Alicudi ‘s total population counts no more than 4500 visitors, all on the eastern side where the slope of the land permits life. In Alicudi cars are not allowed and the main means of transport is the still slow but efficient pace of the mule. Often it is the small details that indicate a high quality of life.

The scent of the island
The terraces built through hard work by farmers to plant capers, reeds, carob, prickly pears accompany you along the road that leads from Alicudi port to the top of the Serra Faraona, a vanrage point for a view that takes your breath away, in front of an untouched sea, full of groupers, amberjacks and lobsters.
