Description

Panarea Sicily sailing holidays

The smallest but the most famous
The island of Panarea, the smallest of the Aeolian Islands is the island of celebrities, an elite tourist destination and a must for every sailing holiday in the Aeolian Islands. An inhabited land, the island is concentrated in three districts: St. Peter’s, Ditella and Drautto.

No cars
The main road that crosses the island from north to south, is not accessible to cars, and wondering among the houses, offers fantastic views of the surrounding rocks and including Stromboli.

No campsites
The island is free of the campsites. By walking through paths and trails, marked by clumps of mastic, myrtle and capers, you reach Timpone del Corvo from the summit of which you can admire a unique panorama of the Aeolian archipelago.

Cala Junco
The beautiful bay of Cala Junco, the promontory of Capo Milazzo with the prehistoric village dating back to the Bronze Age, the north-west coast with the ‘La Nave’ rock, are ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving; The island of Lisca Bianca and the Lovers’ Cave are just some of the most visited places of Panarea.

the “mundane” island
The most attractive part of the island where we definitely will drop anchor is the exclusive bay of Cala Junco, the extreme southern tip of Panarea, a picturesque beach enclosed by walls formed from molten lava, high in the prehistoric village. If Volcano attracts those who love privacy, a few miles away, Panarea tempts the most mundane, the most extravagant, those who love the charm of the sea and the charm of Mediterranean architecture.

the Vip island
Today Panarea is identified as the island of celebrities, a destination chosen by businessmen, politicians, actors and footballers who spend the afternoon in their yachts anchored in the harbour and then meet in the evening at exclusive parties or dancing in the now legendary disco Raya, which offers even a water taxi service from the other islands at night.

Enchanting sea and pristine nature
But Panarea has another side, a side that is more intimate and private. Here there is still an harmonic balance, of gardens, terraces, verandas, figs, geraniums, vegetable gardens, broom, citrus, framed by an enchanting sea that is tinged with a thousand shades ranging from emerald green to a white opaque during hazy days and a deep blue in the days when the west wind rages.

No pollution
On the island there are no cars and heavy items are carried by the only two ‘paths’ of the island with the characteristic “Ape Car” (three wheel motor-lorry) which is still banned in siesta hours.

The island of Panarea should not just be experienced for the enchanting bay of Cala Junco (considered by some the most fashionable beach of Italy), or for the villages of St. Peter and Ditella.

The “elegant” island
Panarea must be experienced as a place to read, to think. It must be loved for its uniqueness for its elegance, for its cosmopolitanism, its landscapes, the sea disturbed by the continual coming and going of ferries, sail and steamships.
