Salina

The island of Salina will be the “green” stopover of your holiday on a sailing boat in the Aeolian islands. Salina is unique. It’s hard to imagine a place in the world where, in the enchantment of a deep blue sea, beaches and small breath-taking coves, a volcano of nearly a thousand feet, stands covered by dense vegetation. From the summit of the volcano you can enjoy the enchanting scenery of the Aeolian Islands. The island of Salina communicates to its visitor an atmosphere of serenity and beauty, thanks to its naturally green landscape created by the permeable rocks all over the island that are full of water.

Salina Sicily sailing vacation

Arriving by the boat

The view from the boat to the island of Salina in fact appears as a green spot in the middle of the deep blue sea: a picture of a rare beauty. To protect this paradise in the sea its inhabitants have made it a nature reserve, so that tourists can enjoy the beauty of the island without spoiling it.

The Green Island

The green island of the Aeolians is visited mostly by spiritualists seeking a relaxing holiday, but there are also opportunities for fun. The main feature of the island is its nature and silence.

The village of Pollara

When visiting Salina, during your sailing holiday in the Aeolian Islands, a stop in Pollara, a village located in an extinct crater and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in the world, is a must. The sunset seen from Pollara is an indescribable spectacle; Here the subsidence and erosion of an ancient volcanic structure gave way to one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the archipelago.

The Perciato Arch

A vast natural amphitheater that overlooks a beautiful black sandy beach in front of the large rock ‘Faraglione’, while on the right you can admire the stunning natural arch of stone called ‘Perciato’.

Crowd less beaches

In Salina there are still crowd-less beaches that lurk unsuspected in the high and indented coast, and there are a lot of trekking trails that climb up to Monte Fossa delle Felci (nearly 1000 m).

Admire the nature

The excursion that allows you to closely observe the nature of the island is that of the sanctuary of Valdichiesa up to Monte Fossa delle Felci and then descends to S. Maria Salma. A total of three and a half hours of walking (the path is very comfortable), which takes you 650m above sea level.

Circumnavigate the Island

The circumnavigation of the island will take us to the discovery of the most picturesque places to swim-in. Among them the clear water in front of the pebble beach of Lingua, and the beautiful bay of Pollara, characterized by a long sandy beach and shallow waters that are rich in marine sponges, colonies of sea anemones and yellow sea gorgonians, a favorite haunt of diving and snorkelling lovers.
