Stromboli

The island of Stromboli is another stop not to be missed during your sailing holiday to the Aeolian islands. The island is a delight. Small white or pastel coloured houses decorated with Baroque elements. All around prickly pears, geraniums, giant capers that grow naturally, and some olive and vine. Here, too, time seems to have stopped and peace reigns everywhere. But the real ‘Lord’ of the island is the Volcano, Iddu (him) as it is called the inhabitants of the island with an almost religious respect.

Description

Stromboli sicily boat vacation

The two Ports

The island of Stromboli is another stop not to be missed during your sailing vacation to the Aeolian islands. From the sea you can reach Stromboli from two main points: the small port of Ginostra, the smallest port in the world, so much so that a dinghy is necessary; and the port of Scuri, more comfortable and positioned to the east.

the Village of Ginostra

The small village of Ginostra is just a small group of houses dominated by the Volcano, which can be reached by climbing wide stairs that lead from the dock to the main square. Small white or pastel coloured houses decorated with Baroque elements. All around prickly pears, geraniums, giant capers that grow naturally, and some olive and vine. Here, too, time seems to have stopped and peace reigns everywhere.

the Vulcano “Iddu”

But the real ‘Lord’ of the island is the Volcano, Iddu (him) as it is called the inhabitants of the island with an almost religious respect. The route that leads to the crater offers an unforgettable sight. The show is guaranteed, but it takes about 4 hours of walking. It is not a an easy stroll. But it’s surely worth it.

the Village of Ginostra

The top of the mountain is slightly higher than the crater and allows you to observe the activity of the volcano from above, in all its beauty. The volcano in fact, shoots incandescent blocks every half hour. Every day. Each month. Every year. And it has been doing so for centuries. Regular and punctual as a heart pulsing with lava.

Admire the show of the eruption from the boat

Stromboli is safe as it often consumes pent-up energy in the bowels of the earth and does not accumulate in excessive doses. A sailing holiday to the Aeolian Islands is exclusive for the fact that you will be able to assist, with certainty, to a live volcanic eruption without facing any danger. There is nothing of its kind in the Mediterranean.

Shortly before the explosion, the vapors will turn red: it is magma that rises to the surface. All around there is only breeze and sea. But the real show is when it gets dark and scarlet track eruptions draw the black vault of the night.
