Great Diving sites

The Isola del Giglio is one of the most important places for diving in Italy. The fascinating underwater world with seagrass meadows, orgone wonderful, colorful sponges make this area a real natural treasure.

In deeper water you can see schools of yellowtails, barracuda, tuna and giant lecce which can reach 3 meters in length, while the many cracks of the rocks are rich in moray eels, crabs, lobsters and groupers. The island is a real diving lovers paradise.

On land: less than half the territory (zone 2); included in the perimeter of the Park are also: le Scole, lo Scoglio del Corvo and the Island of Cappa, the territory of which is 100% protected (zone 2).

Diving

Useful Informations For Sailing

Island of Giglio is almost monolithic, although with creeks, ravines and remarkable points. The coast is high and has a maximum altitude to 498 m. From a distance it is also clearly visible in the upper village perched about 400 m (Giglio Castle).

The Port of Giglio is in the part of town by the sea, while another town is in the north in the locality Campese. Cape Fenaio , to the north, has the lighthouse number 2156-E 1486, set in a white octagonal tower. At the south of the Cape Fenaio, to Campese, there is a dangerous dry.

Similarly to the east is the Secca della Croce ( Croce Dry), unexpected because about 400 m from the shore. Punta Faraglione ends with a big and tall rock. Punta del Capel Rosso, not to be confused with the one of Giannutri island, stretches into the sea.

Higher there is a tower leaning to a white building with white stripes and red, where is placed the lighthouse No 2168-E 1492. The most used shelters are Campese to the North, with wide sandy beach and on the ground, and Cala delle Cannelle (Cannelle Bay) and “Cala Caldane” “Caldane Bay” of The Rocks just south of Scole. Among the rocks and the coast you can pass.
