A totally flat island

Pianosa is the most warm and bright island of the whole Tuscan Archipelago, and, as the name implies, is totally flat. Pianosa Island has the surreal appearance of a huge raft made of white shells. With a perimeter of twenty-six kilometers geologically it is a platform of marine sediment, raised a few meters above sea level. …. completely flat, so flat that the sea can be seen only when you look out to the coast!

Leave the boat and take the ferry

The sea around Pianosa is particularly abundant in marine fauna. It would be very difficult to include Pianosa in Tuscany sailing charters, since the waters, once protected indirectly by the severe police surveillance, today are protected for their environmental value and rich fauna. The Only way to enjoy Pianosa’s particular charm during a sailing holiday in Tuscany is to leave the boat and take the ferry.
